Frequently asked questions

Can I make a font from my real handwriting on paper?

Yes. Print the free 2-page template, write each letter in its box with a dark pen, and take a photo of each page. Assignment Lab finds the corner squares, straightens the photo, cuts out every letter and builds your font.

What makes a good photo?

Lay the page flat in daylight or bright light, hold the phone straight above it, and keep all four black squares in the picture. A black or dark blue pen works best; pencil is often too light.

Can I install the font on my computer?

Yes. Download the .otf file and double-click it (Windows or Mac) to install it, then pick "My Handwriting" in Word, Google Docs or any app.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are read inside your browser and never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes. The Make Your Own Handwriting Font on Assignment Lab is completely free with no sign-up, and it works right in your browser. Nothing you type or add is uploaded.
